1. What was your childhood ambition?

To be a professional ballerina. I ended up not having the correct body type or the talent.

2. What ambitions do you still have?

To teach ballroom dance and to publish a novel.

3. What was your first job?

I first worked as a counselor at a day camp. I spent four summers supervising, helping with crafts, making sure kids at lunch, and generally trying to keep everyone out of trouble. Clearly there was some aspect I liked, because I kept returning every year, but I never wanted to have kids after that.

4. How did you end up being an erotic writer?

One afternoon, I was hanging out in my apartment, and I had an idea for a woman who fucks her yoga instructor during a private lesson. I’d never even read an erotic story before, I just had this idea. I wrote the whole thing out, edited it, and submitted it to Black Heart Magazine, which accepted it. With my confidence up, I slowly began to write more erotica. Eventually, I realized I enjoyed writing erotica more than any other writing I had tried before. I began to feel as though I had found myself artistically. Now, erotica is my primary focus.

5. What are the most important components that go into making good erotic fiction?

Giving the reader a reason to care. I’m not typically interested in stories that are just brief interludes followed by descriptions of sex. I want characters with personalities, compelling plots, interesting moods. Not that everything has to have a simple beginning, middle, and end. Some of my favorite pieces are brief scenes. But even these scenes are more than just sex – they have engaging dialogue or tension. If I want pointless sex, I can take care of that on my own. Really great erotic stories have more than just what’s between the sheets.

6. What does your working day typically consist of?

I usually wake up no later than 8 and sit down to do some freelance work. I typically freelance for 4 hours a day, but sometimes will do more if I don’t have to go to my other job, or if I want to take a long weekend. I also work part-time at a bookstore three or four days a week. On the days I freelance and go to the bookstore, I don’t get much of my own writing done. On the days I just freelance, I can easily get in several hours of my own writing.

7. And what aspects of your job do you enjoy the most?

I’m not chained to a desk all day. I used to work a desk job, and while it paid well and had great benefits, I was miserable. Now, I get to work in bed, on the couch, in a coffee shop, or surrounded by books. I can take a break whenever I need it. My schedule is pretty flexible, so I can do errands during the day rather than at night when I’m dead tired. I can take a morning yoga class before work if I want. My commute is minimal, and usually to somewhere I enjoy. Plus, I rarely have to give a damn about my appearance. If I stay home, I get to work naked!

8. How do people who don’t know you react when you tell them you’re an erotic author?

Most people I’ve told have been at least polite, if not outright interested or excited. I’ve yet to encounter any outright hostility from anyone about my work. I’ve been very lucky in that respect.

9. How do you like to relax when you’re not at work?

Writing erotica is part work and part relaxation. It’s not easy, but I don’t consider it a job – it’s something I love to do that I occasionally get paid for (and hopefully the getting paid part will become more frequent). I also love to dance and spend as many as 20 hours a week in the studio. But reading is my favorite way to decompress.

10. What do you think is your best attribute?

Determination. Sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out what I want, but once I do, nothing will stop me from achieving my goals. It may take years, but I am quite stubborn and will persevere.

Dorla has been published in Black Heart Magazine, Bear Back Magazine, Pink Flamingo, Sliptongue, For the Girls, and Mainstream Erotica. She also appears in:

Author interview with Johnny Miles

What was your childhood ambition?
I don’t think I ever really had a childhood ambition. I more had dreams and wishes for things I wanted to see happen, like world peace. The end of poverty, disease and famine. Yeah. I was a dreamer. Even now, at the risk of sounding like Miss America, I still want world peace and solutions that will end hunger, homelessness, diseases. Solutions to our dependency on oil would also be very cool!

More than anything, though, I would like to able to continue writing, getting published and make enough money so that I can pretty much do anything I want, whenever I want, and the continued health to enjoy all this wonderful life has to offer.

What ambitions do you still have?
To travel the world and expose myself to different cultures. Few things are as exhilarating as traveling to a place you’ve never been before. I’d love to be able to pick a location and write an erotic romance revolving around that locale, living there until I’m done with the story.

Barring that, I would love to someday be able to work with such brilliant and talented writers as Russell T. Davies and Armistead Maupin.

How did you end up being an erotic writer?
Ironically, I was reading a gay magazine and got irritated by one of the stories. I remember thinking to myself, what the hell is this crap? I can do better than this! I was so annoyed I complained to anyone that would listen. My then partner must have gotten tired of me mouthing off because he finally said, “Why don’t you stop talking about it and do something?” Which I did! Six months later I had my very first story appear in Blueboy magazine. I was very excited! Especially since the stories that followed allowed me to buy my first ever used car!

What are the most important components that go into making good erotic fiction?
For me, it all stars with believable characters. Even if they’re in unbelievable situations or genres where I have to suspend my disbelief, so long as the characters are believable and somewhat likeable, that’s a good start. Good sex. Really good, hot, steamy sex. I want the writer to crawl into my brain and give me a good mind fuck.

If you could have any celebrity pictured carrying one of your books who would you choose and why?
Any celebrity, huh? Wow. That’s tough. I can’t narrow it down to one but if Brad Pitt, Ed Norton or Italian pop singer Eros Ramazzotti ever read my work, I would be walking on air! Eric Himan, too! Of course, if pornstar Ted Colunga knocked on my door and said he enjoyed my work I’d probably drop to my knees. From shock!

As to why…well…they’re hot!

What does your working day typically consist of?
I almost wish it was more exciting than what it really is. Usually my day starts seeing my partner off to work. We have a little breakfast and after he leaves, I answer e-mail while my coffee brews. I spend some time on Facebook — sometimes far more than I care to admit — and then I jump into whatever story I’m working on.

If we’re working on a movie, I sometimes spend the day meeting with cute guys, snapping some pics, arranging for a film shoot or editing anything that was filmed and putting it together for our distributor.

And what aspects of your job do you enjoy the most?
When writing? What I enjoy the most is that I can create a completely new world or a character completely from scratch.

When filming? The fact that I can sometimes touch some of the cute, sexy guys performing in front of the camera.

How do you like to relax when you’re not at work?

Usually with friends. Taking in a movie or sharing a bottle of wine with my partner. Just some good, old-fashioned quality time in intimate settings.

What’s the best present you’ve ever been given?
As corny as it sounds, my partner of 14 years is the best present I’ve ever received. The Universe was good to me when he was placed in my path.

What’s the best thing that has happened to you in the last 12 months?
Wow! That’s also a tough question to answer. More than one thing qualify for that spot. But I would have to say that the absolute best thing is that my very first gay romance (other than erotica just for the sake of erotica) was accepted for publication by Loose Id. Yeah, that would definitely be the best thing that’s happened since it’s a dream come true from when I was very, very young.

Stallions Pride immerses you into the world of Brishen, the new King of the Horse Changelings, a nation of people who can transform into horses at will. From the difficult death of his father at the beginning, to the awakening of his love for his best friend Jal, this book is beautifully written, switching very credibly from human to animal perspective. From the start it oozes with romance and sex, every page hinting at the desire lurking beneath each character’s outward appearance.

The story focuses on Brishen, leader of the Horse tribe, and the difficulties he is facing in reuniting his people. At the same time, it also introduces you to the incredible leaders of the Cougar, Bear and Wolf tribes, three men so throbbing with erotic masculinity that they practically jump off the page at you.

It follows Brishen’s journey from young stud, unsure of whether he can live up to his tribe’s expectation, through to his realisation that he can have everything and still be the strong leader he wants to be. You witness his struggle to cope with his feelings for his friend Jal; feelings that are so different to his father’s wishes for him to provide heirs; and to reconcile them with the love and lust he feels for his chosen mate, the beautiful Tawnie.

Every chapter and every encounter between characters is filled with erotic possibility. The narrative is fast paced and keeps you riveted; I read this in one go without a break. You can almost feel the heat and smell the desire of the characters, all of which are believable and likeable which only adds to the appeal of this story.

The book as a whole is like an old-fashioned fairy tale or legend. It has the feeling of the old world, brought up to date with a lot of hot sex! I would definitely recommend it to those who like a little romance and a happy ending alongside some very hot and seriously naughty erotica!

Stone Franks is a female author who usually writes horror stories. Reading this short story, it soon becomes apparent that horror is where her writing prowess lies!

The story is fast paced and descriptive. Action packed heavily lesbian sexual scenes and overtones. I would not call this erotica as much as extreme hardcore lesbian written porn.

There are many themes at play here, not merely the explicit butch/boi action but also an element of BDSM, with Dominance & submission, sadism & masochism, as well as humiliation, w/s, bondage and ageplay at work.

Seen vividly through the eyes of the main protagonist, the story seems not only to delve deeper into explicit raunchy filth with every new paragraph but practically leap.

The writing is at times rough and draft-like, with a spelling mistake or two sadly missed during any proof reading stage. After one final polish, I feel that this story would be worthy of a place on anyone’s bookshelf, real or cyber.

Definitely not for the faint hearted, the at times shocking scenes were both rudely distasteful in places and mesmerisingly compelling. Rather like if Stephen King had written a lesbian sex scene.

On more than one occasion I felt I could not continue reading, yet I felt I must know what happened next. My eyes eagerly took in each new breathtakingly filthy sentence and morally distressing description.

Towards the final few paragraphs, I felt worn out, ravaged… but completely turned on. Call me deviant but this writer certainly knows how to create sexual tension. Despite my misgivings during the reading, I find that I cannot get this story out of my head. It is one that will haunt you for a long time after you close the book… I think I will be reading it again very soon!

At sweet 16 Victoria is every father’s nightmare – horny! When the books starts she’s caught making out with the stable boy. Shocked that his daughter was ready to disgrace herself with the peasants he employs, her father packs her off to the Venice School for Young Ladies where she will be educated in all the arts a young woman needs before she can enter society.

Either his letter went astray or the business acquaintance recommending the school had ulterior motives, because it turns out to be the Venus School for Young Women which has nothing to do with Venice and everything to do with the Roman Goddess. Within hours of arriving at her new school and meeting the principle, Madame Thackeray, Victoria is being introduced to the wonders of sex.

What follows is both an exceedingly erotic story and a usable sex manual. Victoria is taught everything she needs to know to pleasure a man and have a satisfying sex life herself, in explicit enough detail for a reader to pick up the same skills.

Victoria is a natural and takes to her new life with gleeful abandon, she has numerous sexual encounters with the staff of the school and her fellow pupils and later unleashes her skills on the wider world.

Her lessons expand to include sado-masochism with scenes of spanking from early on in the book building up to much more extreme scenes of torture and rape as the book moves towards it’s conclusion. Some of it is quite unpalatable, Angela Meadows is definitely pushing the boundaries at times, and it’s not a story that will appeal to all readers.

Most of the story was a nice easy read with steamy sex scenes that were definitely some of the hottest I have read – the scene where Victoria’s birthday was celebrated with a full on orgy was particularly well written.

This is definitely a book for those who like it full on, but if that’s you, give it a go, you’ll probably enjoy it as much as I did.

Confessions is a foray into the sexy worlds of voyeurism, promiscuity, dominance, and threesomes. While the stories are all engaging and hot, they’re different from what I’m used to seeing from Xcite publications. Although the collection is a reflection of Xcite’s commitment to quality fiction, it also strays from the company’s vision of empowered female sexuality.

Confessions only consists of four stories, but that doesn’t mean the collection is lacking. Each of these pieces is long, meaning that you get plot, tension, and character development. While I understand the value of a quickie (both in fiction form and in sex itself), I also appreciate writers who can write sustained stories and keep the sex compelling for twenty or more pages. Editor Miranda Forbes did an excellent job of selecting works that could go the distance.

While reading Confessions, I could not shake the feeling that something didn’t feel right, and I could not quite figure out why. After all, the stories were all good in their own right. But as I was reading “Miss Prissy,” the problem suddenly dawned on me. One of the things I like about Xcite is the company’s focus on empowered female sexuality. In fact, they make a point of emphasizing this in their writer’s guidelines: “These stories are aimed at female readers so must celebrate female sexuality in all its forms and never denigrate women.” However, none of these stories really put much of a focus on female agency or empowerment in the bedroom. All of the stories are written by men, and all four have male protagonists as well. None of the women are well-developed characters; they serve as objects of male gaze and satisfaction, with little emphasis on a woman’s pleasure. Even “Coming on Command,” a story about a man who states “My thing is making girls come,” does little to focus on women. After reading this story, I could not remember any of the women characters’ names, nor much about them; they were so flat that they faded from my memory after the narrator was done with them.

But the story that seems most detached from Xcite’s sensibilities is the final story, “Paris.” From the first page, we find out that the narrator is completely possessive: “I like a girl to be mine, if you know what I mean.” He doesn’t like that his girlfriend, Lucie, flirts or even interacts with other men (he gets upset if she even talks to someone else): “As far as I was concerned I was the one she went to bed with at the end of the day and that should have been enough.” But what makes the story truly appalling is the transphobic attitude the story takes in the end. After they break up, Lucie arranges for two transpeople, Mirella and Samara, to pose as ciswomen and seduce the narrator. As a result, the story makes transpeople less than full humans, objects to be used for revenge, things that inspire revulsion. Further, we even see the word “shemale” mentioned in the story, a word that is highly offensive within the trans community. While “Paris” actually ends on a positive note, this does not exoneration or justify the transphobia.

Confessions is a great collection if you’re looking for a variety of sexy stories that can capture and keep your attention over the long haul. However, it does not appear to be “aimed at female readers or celebrate female sexuality in all its forms.” Rather, this collection seems focused on men and their desires, and occasionally descends into insensitivity.

“Variety’s the very spice of life, that gives it all flavour.” So says the author William Cowper and so say I in regards to a recent read of “Sex in the City”. This collection of 12 erotic stores is hot and packs a punch. There is something for everyone; the stories cover everything from love to BDSM to raunchy sex to…well whatever you might think of really.

Some of the highlights include:

The interesting, kinky effects when dressed in other people’s clothing;

A hot and fabulous trip to Torture Garden;

Put to the test in front of strangers;

Kidnapping and the Stockholm Syndrome, sexy-style;

Role play and groups that get you juicy;

Art and sex and secrets and exhibitionism.

All of the stories of this particular volume take place in London, that thriving, heaving city where people can do whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it and however they want to do it. These stories are a fitting tribute to a diverse, beautiful city that offers its citizens anything they might need or want.

Each story is complete within itself and many of them leave the reader wanting more. ‘What happens next?’ was my usual thought. The characters and situations are real and complex, not fake and plastic and unattainable – this is partly why the stories are so compelling. Anyone who reads the stories will enjoy them all, but will have some favourites among them depending on what they like.

This inferno is well worth the read.

As a fan of Black Lace (RIP), erotica and the paranormal, Love on the Dark Side seemed like the perfect read to me. Published a few years back, it finally made its way to the top of my enormous to be read pile. Featuring esteemed authors such as Mathilde Madden, Olivia Knight, Kristina Lloyd, Madelynne Ellis, Janine Ashbless and Portia Da Costa, my expectations were high. Unfortunately, the book didn’t quite live up to it.

However, this was less to do with the authors and the writing, and more to do with the way the book was put together. Yes, all the stories were paranormal, but they were all pretty varying in scope; from vampires and werewolves to incubi, succubi and spirits of those who have passed on. I think within paranormal, people have their favourite sub-genres and therefore they’d rather read more on those particular subjects. I know I would. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, so if you’re a lover of all things supernatural, then go ahead and check out this book.

Real stand out stories in this book for me were Mathilde Madden’s What Witches Want and Madelynne Ellis’ Lust for Blood. However, this goes back to my previous comment about sub-genres. Madden’s story deals with werewolves, which I never really had a ‘thing’ for until I read her Silver Trilogy series of books, all of which were extremely sexy. Ellis’ story, as you may have guessed, is about vampires – and not only that, a bit of girl-guy-guy action. A winner all round, really.

Overall, a bit hit and miss – but it’s got a good enough quality of writing and top authors to make it worth reading if it’s your cup of tea. Check out my Book Depository link below to find the cheapest price – you won’t mind paying it.

Gay Love is a collection of five short stories, each exploring a different aspect of male on male loving.

“Put a ring on it” is a sweet little story dealing with the transition from mates and football buddies to lovers. “Aduniad” describes a more established couple starting to develop a D/s dynamic. “Automatic Transmission” is an unusual tale of auto-fellatio and the bond it creates between two devotees of the skill. “Fisherman’s Friend” is a romantic tale of new love (and lust) growing out of heart break “One More Ride” quickly takes us from first glance to first fuck with a side order of gleaming chrome motorbike.

There’s something for everyone in this collection, whether you prefer slow paced romance or fast and filthy. My personal favourite was One More Ride, which captured that intoxicating mixture of excitement and fear that you only get at the start of a new relationship, but all the stories were well written and enjoyable to read.

This might be controversial, but for me, the best erotic fiction isn’t all about the sex. With no pun intended, it really should be about the full package. And that’s what Chrissie Bentley delivers in this collection of short stories which sway from the poignant to the ludicrously funny. And that package includes – rest assured – lots of hot Victorian action!

Set in the era already SO dominated by that other fictional detective, Ambrose Horne does a very good job at establishing himself as the sleuth who takes a refreshingly different approach to uncovering the truth – more often than not a horizontal one.

When I started reading this book, I worried that after the first few stories, the plots would grow a bit samey or contrived (as they did in that TV programme Rosemary and Thyme – after all, just how many murders can a couple of landscape gardeners unearth?!) but thankfully this is not the case here. In fact, not only has the author managed to create a charismatic hero (who has a Bond-esque way with the ladies) and some entertaining and testing plotlines, but she’s impressively highlighted a social truth: that almost everything in this life comes down to sex, greed or both.

I can’t wait to read the next two instalments of Ambrose Horne.
